Will These 7 Side Effects of Cannabis Tinctures Keep You Away?

Cannabis tinctures are generally safe to use. However, it is important to check the product label before using a tincture to ensure that it contains the correct dosage and ingredients for your needs. Additionally, as with any form of medication or supplement, you should always consult your doctor before using a cannabis product.

1. Increased heart rate

Cannabis tinctures contain high levels of THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis. When consumed, THC can cause an increase in heart rate as it stimulates the cardiovascular system and causes blood vessels to dilate. This increased heart rate is usually short-lived and should not be a cause for concern unless it persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as chest pain or dizziness.

2. Dry mouth

Tinctures cause dry mouth because they contain cannabinoids, which can interfere with the body’s natural production of saliva. This is due to the way that cannabis interacts with receptors in the brain and salivary glands, stimulating them and causing a decrease in saliva production.

3. Paranoia or anxiety

As mentioned earlier, tinctures contain high concentrations of THC, the main psychoactive ingredient used in cannabis products. High doses of this compound can cause the human body to respond with anxiety and paranoia because it affects the brain's cannabinoid receptors. These cells control emotions, memory, concentration and coordination among many other functions.

4. Impaired coordination and motor skills

Along with other side effects, the THC compound affects the brain’s reward system, producing a feeling of euphoria and relaxation.

This allows the tinctures to also impair coordination and motor skills by disrupting communication between neurons in the cerebellum. This is the part of the brain which controls balance and coordination.

5. Short-term memory loss

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that cannabis tinctures cause short-term memory loss. However, it is possible that the psychoactive effects of cannabis can impair memory function in some people and therefore could have an impact on short-term memory. When consumed in large doses, THC can interfere with cognitive functioning and temporarily impair memory formation. Most of the times, this impact on memory is temporary, lasting only for a few minutes or hours.

6. Changes in blood pressure

At this time, there is not enough scientific evidence to determine how cannabis tincture impacts human blood pressure. Some studies have suggested that cannabis may lower blood pressure, but more research is needed in order to understand the full effects of cannabis on blood pressure. On the flip side, tinctures can also help increase the blood pressure when anxiety levels go up because of other side effects.

7. Respiratory problems

Respiratory problems may be experienced while using cannabis tinctures, especially if the user is not familiar with their effects. Common respiratory issues include increased coughing and shortness of breath due to inhalation of the tincture's concentrated form. It is important for users to start slowly when first trying a tincture in order to gauge how it affects them and adjust accordingly.

If any breathing difficulties occur, users should immediately stop taking the product and consult a doctor as soon as possible.
