Will Smoking Dabs Hurt Your Lungs?

Smoking dabs can hurt your lungs. The smoke from these concentrated forms of cannabis is much more potent than regular flower and contains higher levels of carcinogens. Inhaling this smoke can cause irritation to the respiratory system and may increase the risk of certain health problems such as bronchitis, asthma, etc. Here’s everything you need to know about it and how to take care of your self so that your lungs health remains intact.

1. High concentration of THC

Cannabis dabs contain high concentrations of THC, which can irritate the lungs when inhaled in smoke form. High concentrations of THC can have a negative effect on your lungs. It has been found to increase the risk of bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory problems due to its ability to irritate the airways. Prolonged use of high concentration THC can also lead to an increased risk for developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

2. Irritating chemicals

The process used to make cannabis dabs may involve using butane or other potentially irritating chemicals that could cause lung irritation when inhaled as part of the dabbing process. Irritating chemicals from dabs can cause inflammation and irritation in the lungs, leading to coughing, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. It may also increase the risk of developing asthma or other respiratory conditions. Long-term exposure to these irritating chemicals can lead to permanent damage to the airways and increased susceptibility to infections.

3. Temperature

The temperature at which cannabis dabs are heated and vaporized can be extremely hot and may lead to lung damage if not properly controlled during the dabbing process. Temperature control is important for both the taste of your dab and to avoid any potential health risks associated with inhaling hot vapors.

Generally, it is recommended that users keep their temperatures at or below 500°F (260°C). For maximum flavor and effect, many experienced dabbers prefer to keep their temperature even lower around 350-400°F (177-204°C).

4. Residual solvent exposure:

Even after a dab has been made, residual solvents from the initial extraction process may remain on the surface of the dab and be ingested by users, leading to potential lung irritation or damage when they are exposed to these substances while smoking it. The best way to avoid ingesting residual solvents is to ensure that dabs are made using a closed-loop extraction system and have been tested for residual solvents prior to consumption. Additionally, it is important to only purchase dabs from reputable sources that use high-quality materials and processes in the production of their products. Finally, some users may choose to vaporize their dab instead of smoking it as this can reduce exposure levels of any potential contaminants.

5. Lack of filtration

Because cannabis dabs do not typically use water filtration systems like traditional bongs, this means that the smoke or vapor inhaled is not filtered, leading to a higher concentration of irritants that can damage the lungs. Additionally, the higher temperatures used when smoking dabs can also damage the lungs and throat. For these reasons, it is recommended that people who choose to dab cannabis use a water filtration system or some other cooling device to reduce the risk of harm.
