What Are Cannabis Tinctures?

Tinctures

As the cannabis products continue to be produced across Oklahoma and beyond, people are increasingly looking for various medicinal cannabis products. According to experts, two of the most common chemical compounds in the weed plant (THC and CBD) have a wide variety of medical applications, ranging from seizure to anxiety management. With a growing number of marijuana products in the market today, new users may find it difficult to understand what each is and why they should choose a given product over the other.

One of the product types that users may want to know about is cannabis tinctures. These are among the most potent and fast-acting products, which are also very simple to utilize.

So, what are cannabis tinctures?

Weed tinctures are among the oldest and purest forms of medical marijuana. Surprisingly, tinctures have existed long before marijuana use was banned in the US in 1937. These are simply liquids made from a combination of alcohol and cannabis extracts (CBD and/or THC), and they usually come in glass bottles with droppers. They are normally taken sublingually, but you can also mix them with drinks and food.

Cannabis tinctures vary in outcome based on whether you utilize them orally, sublingually, or infuse them with food and drinks. If you want instant results, you should use your cannabis tincture sublingually.

Nonetheless, all tinctures act faster than other forms of cannabis, regardless of how you consume it. Even when you use it with food or orally, you won’t have to wait for two or three hours before you start feeling the effects of your medicine. After a dose of cannabis tincture, you should be able to find out shortly whether or not you need to add more.

Similar to the extraction of cannabis oil, cannabis tinctures also use a solvent to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant material. However, tinctures are different from cannabis oil because alcohol is not only used to extract the terpenes and cannabinoids but is also included in the final product.

On the contrary, all solvents are purged when making cannabis oil, given that the product will be inhaled instead of being used orally using a dropper as a tincture would.

As indicated above, tinctures are edible. For this reason, the marijuana used has to be decarboxylated to make sure all the cannabis ingredients are active. If not, the medicinal effects of the product won’t be as strong as they are expected.

How to make a tincture.

As I mentioned earlier a tincture is basically alcohol mixed with cannabis. It usually takes about 2 weeks to a couple months for the liquid to fully saturate and extract the cannabis plants medicinal benefits.

The great thing for Oklahoma cannabis patients is that they are super easy to make. Here's what you'll need:

  • A valid OMMA (Oklahoma medical marijuana authority) card

  • 1 oz. of Cannabis or Cbd flower of choice

  • 70-90 proof vodka

  • 1 mason jar

Here's How:

  1. Fill the mason jar about 2/3 full of dried cannabis

  2. Add the vodka until it is two inches above flower. If your cannabis is dried you might have to add more vodka later.

  3. Put the parchment paper on top of the jar. Place the lid on top of paper and seal tight. this ensures the rubber from the lid doesn't melt. Store in cool dark place

  4. Shake your mason jar twice a day for as long as you feel it needs. 2-8 weeks is a considerable amount of time.

  5. Once your ready for the final product, pour the resulting tincture into another, clean mason jar. Take the cheesecloth and strain the rest of the cannabis into the clean jar as well.

  6. place another piece of parchment paper on the new jar and seal tight. store in cool dark place. An amber dropper bottle is another way to store finished product.

Why should Oklahoma patients consider tinctures?

Below is a list of the reasons why you should try tincture over other methods of consumption:

· Discretion - Tinctures do not smell like weed. Additionally, given that they are packaged in a glass bottle with a dropper, they look like any conventional medicine.

· Fewer calories – Unlike brownies and gummies, tinctures do not have added sugars, which could easily add to your intake of calories. If you need the edibles experience, you simply add them to the food you intend to eat.

· Precise dosing – You can easily control the amount of tincture you consume without accidentally taking higher doses than needed.

· Faster onset – You will know if your medicine has worked in a shorter period than you will if you took other forms of cannabis.

· Simpler to use than vaping or smoking – If you have a hard time or you dislike vaping or smoking cannabis, you are better off utilizing tinctures.

Final Thought

As you have seen, tinctures offer a discreet and simpler way of receiving the benefits of the cannabis plant without smoking. What are you waiting for? Head over to your nearest Oklahoma dispensary (don’t forget your med card) and grab your bottle of tincture or follow the instruction above and enjoy the benefits of this super plant!
