HOW TO GET YOUR OMMA (OKLAHOMA MEDICAL MARIJUANA AUTHORITY) CARD

You might be someone who suffers from anxiety, insomnia, or chronic pain. Lately you've been doing just about anything you can to find the relief you need. Cannabis is an alternative medicine that has, on numerous occasions proven effective. But in order to legally get medical marijuana in your hands you'll need an valid OMMA (Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority) patient card. How do you get a medical marijuana card? Lets go through the steps.






STEP 1: DOCTOR RECOMENDATION


You may not know this but doctors really don't prescribe weed.

They recommend it, reason being the FDA does not approved marijuana so legally they cannot prescribe medical cannabis. Recommendations are made for patients with certain health conditions, so if you believe medical marijuana can help with your health the first step would be to find a doctor who is willing to recommend marijuana.


Always come prepared to your doctors visit with your health history and any current prescriptions you're on. If it is determined by the doc that you qualify for a recommendation they would then fill out a state approved form that is submitted with your application.


Qualifying Conditions


Patients often suffer from one or more of the following conditions:

  • Anxiety

  • Migraines

  • Chronic Pain

  • Inflammation

  • Insomnia

  • Nausea

  • Depression

  • Aches

  • Muscle Pain


STEP 2: APPLY FOR A MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARD


You'll need the following information before applying for your card:

  • Proof of identity such as drivers license, tribal card, passport, government id..

  • Proof of residency Are you really an Oklahoma resident? if so prove it. voter id, utility bill from previous month, property deed, rental agreement.

  • Photo clear full-faced photo in color.

  • Doctor Recommendation It needs to be dated within 30 days and completed in full, if not it will be rejected.

  • Medicare or Medicaid Include your medical insurance if applicable.


The standard application fee is $100. If you are covered by Medicaid or Medicare, you must pay the reduced fee of $20. Your Medical Marijuana Card is valid for 2 years.


STEP 3: Waiting Game


It usually takes 14-21 days to hear back from OMMA. Sending your paperwork in doesn't automatically qualify you to hit the dispensary, you have to wait for the process to complete.
