If you want to produce a bigger yield from your cannabis crop and don't know where to start then I have what you need below. I mean who doesn't though?

You don't have to be a murderous madman in your garden to get the best yield, it's all about taking it slow and being aware of what your plants can and cannot take when it comes to "stress".

It seems as soon as a grower hears what is getting ready to be talked about, they go crazy and get to bending, twisting, folding, and breaking plants (on accident, I'd hope) to achieve higher yields from their cannabis plant. No question, it does require a little of all that and a little more... but there are really four main techniques to get the job done: Low Stress Training (LST), High Stress Training (HST), Screen of Green (SCROG), and Sea of Green (SOG). After reading this post, you will without a doubt know the ways to produce some of the biggest yields in the game!

Low Stress Training

Low stress training is quite easy and on the basic side of even though it's super important. It's done by bending the main branches on your cannabis plant to allow more light to reach the bottom nodes of those and other branches. A more advanced method of LST is to bonsai the plant. This is done by using the tie down method and making the plant grow in whichever direction you want it.

Defoliation which is taking the yellowing and larger fan leaves away from the plant to allow more light to penetrate within the canopy. Defoliation should be done in your garden about every 8-10 days during veg cycle to increase node growth.

If you are an organic cannabis grower you should know to top dress every 30-40 days. Top dressing is a low stress training technique, by adding a little more soil and amendments to your plants grow environment your feeding and activating the microbial life within the rootzone. Think of it as getting your feet massaged and oiled up and then getting your ankles strapped down and getting your feet tickled. Getting goosebumps now... and the plant will do the same. In order to survive the plant will get stronger to eliminate the light-stress it has taken and produce a bigger yield.

High Stress Training

This type of training is more intense on cannabis plants and should be done at planned intervals during your grow cycle. The best day to do it in my opinion would be the day you feed. I'd perform any high stress training before I feed so that the plant can get the maximum recovery it needs to thrive. Always allow your plant to rest for 5-10 days before any other kind of training is performed.

High stress training is, bluntly, damaging the cannabis plant in high doses to encourage the plant to grow larger and produce massive yields.

High Stress Techniques Include:

Transplanting: Upgrading the pot size for your plant.

Topping: Removing the tops of the main colas.

Super-Cropping: A light pinch-and-twist of branches causing the plant to look limp.

F.I.M.: Barely clipping the top node of the cannabis plant. This will cause the plant to produce another node to form at the top and widen the bottom half of the plant.

Lollipopping: Stripping the bottom half of the plant and only letting the top buds produce.

Screen of Green (ScrOG)

The screen of green method requires the use of a trellis. What you're doing here is training the canopy to be even all the way across with the help of the trellis to keep it nice and tight. Less plants is required because of the tight spaces and you'll never know which way a branch will extend once it's been trapped in a trellis net.

This method does maximize your light per square foot of space which in turns means producing a bigger yield with a small number of plants. Excellent method for tent and closet growers out there.

Sea of Green (SOG)

Sea of green method is the final of the methods you can use to increase the yield of your cannabis plant. With this method you'd use a smaller number of plants that wouldn't grow too big but produce the same amount of yield as a bigger plant would. Photoperiod cannabis plants are trained by topping plants for an even grow throughout the space. If you're using autoflowers or clones then I wouldn't suggest topping those. This method can help growers harvest a little quicker because of the small number of plants growing in a space maximizing it's potential. Every plant will have one main cola that packs more weight and trichome production than the rest making pre-harvest look like a big green wave in the sea!

All these methods are very simple to use in your grow. Mix and match the ones that resonate with you just remember if you use any high stress training method follow it up with a feeding. The health of the plant always depends on the grower so be mindful and do your plants rights and they will produce some of the biggest yields in the game for you!
